Pregnancy Update

I am officially 31 weeks pregnant with 9 more to go. Last Thursday I had my monthly doctor's appointment. 2 week prior I had taken my glucose tolerance test, so at this appointment they went over the results. For those who don't know the glucose tolerance test is testing for gestational diabetes. Well the cut-off for a normal result is 140 and I came in at 141. Normally they would now do a 3-hour glucose tolerance test before calling it gestational diabetes, well given my history of large babies (#1 - 8 lbs 6 oz; #2 - 8 lbs 2 oz; #3 - 9 lbs 4 oz) they wanted me to do the dietary changes anyway to try to avoid having a 10 lbs baby. They drew my blood for hemoglobin a1c - which tests the amount of glucose that has been attached to your red blood cells - it gives a more accurate picture as to what your blood glucose levels have been for the past 3 months. Well that came back normal but as said before due to my history (and the fact that my dad is diabetic) they still wanted me to do the dietary changes. So I met with my dietitian on Monday - now I am counting carbs and testing my blood glucose 4 times a day. So we'll see how it goes, hopefully I will not have to be on insulin. Well that's the update on the pregnancy. Other than that the baby is growing well and doing very well.
