Shall the Youth of Zion Falter?

(Disclaimer: The following is my own personal interpretation of the information provided based on my own personal revelation and is not an official Church document.)

A week ago while I was in Church listening to my Sunday School lesson the teacher posed a question. He had asked the class what their favorite hymn was and while I was thinking about it I remembered one that I loved in my teens, shortly after joining the Church. It is True to the Faith, Hymn #254 from the Hymn book of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I would like to share the words with you now:

True to the Faith
1. Shall the youth of Zion falter,
In defending truth and right?
While the enemy asaileth,
Shall we shrink or shun the fight? No!

Chorus:
True to the faith that our parents have cherished,
True to the truth for which martyrs have perished,
To God's command, soul, heart, and hand,
Faithful and true we will ever stand.

2. While we know the pow'rs of darkness
Seek to thwart the work of God,
Shall the children of the promise,
Cease to grasp the iron rod? No!


Chorus:
True to the faith that our parents have cherished,
True to the truth for which martyrs have perished,
To God's command, soul, heart, and hand,
Faithful and true we will ever stand.

3. We will work out our salvation,
We will cleave unto the truth,
We will watch and pray and labor,
With the fervent zeal of youth. Yes!

4. We will strive to be found worthy
Of the Kingdom of the Lord,

This song has always spoken to me though I am not totally sure why. It reminds me of my youth when I was ready to take on the world without doubts. A time in life when , while armored with the truth, you are ready to take on the most powerful enemies and proudly proclaim what you know is the truth without fear of what others will think of you. We all need to still be that way. Perhaps that is why we send 19-year-olds on missions and why God the Father and His Son appeared to a 14-year-old boy in a grove in New York to begin the restoration of His gospel. It is that "fervent zeal of youth" that moves mountains and changes minds.
